Derek Theurer graduated from Logan High School in 2000. While there, he received Academic All-State honors in tennis and was active as president of the Logan High chapter of FBLA. After a year of study at Utah State University, Derek spent two years serving the people of New York City. While there, he learned to effectively communicate in Spanish, and also volunteered many hours as an ESL instructor. He gained an appreciation for New York’s tremendous culture and diversity, and especially grew to love the remarkable Latin American people.
Derek is currently a senior at Utah State, majoring in accounting. He works full-time and was awarded the Seely-Hinkley Academic Scholarship for his final year of undergraduate coursework. He is the Service VP of the USU chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants, and is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, Beta Alpha Psi, the Dean’s List, and the National Honor Society. After completing his degree, Derek plans to attend law school and emphasize in either transaction or tax law.
In his free time Derek enjoys biking, playing tennis and golf, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
