The Age Advantage: Over 50 and Still Going Strong!

Jean has over twenty years of experience in education, management, and career counseling. She has worked with over 4,000 people in career transition. Her practical professional experience is combined with extensive study in the fields of adult education, motivation, change, transition, and management theory. She is also the author of The Age Advantage, Making the Most of Your Mid-Life Career Transition.

Jean frequently speaks at organizations such as the International Association of Career Management Professionals, and the International Project Management Institute. She also serves on the Board of Governors of the Institute for Career Certification International.

She holds a bachelor’s, a master’s and a doctorate in education, and she was Oregon’s first International Certified Career Management Fellow.

Jean will discuss the future of retirement. The threat of a worldwide labor shortage is very real. Futurists and demographers predict that by 2008, 45% of the workforce will be in mid-life. Jean theorizes that the good news is today’s mid-lifers are much too energetic, too competitive, and too invested in their careers, to walk quietly into the sunset. Jean will focus on life and work issues in an aging world, the advantages and disadvantages of hiring older workers, and the shadow presence of age discrimination. She will explain how you can challenge past assumptions, question expectations, retain and recruit older workers, and redefine the optimum workforce.
