Gus Villanueva
F-117 Program Director
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics

F-117 Performance Excellence - A Shared Vision Driven by an Empowered and Innovative Team

As director, Gus oversees all aspects of the F-117 Stealth Fighter program. The F-117 was the first operational aircraft to exploit low observable stealth technology. The fighter is operated by the 49th Fighter Wing at Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico. Gus joined Lockheed Martin in September of 1980 as a member of the Skunk Works and progressed through various positions of increasing responsibility in manufacturing and program management.

He graduated from the University of Phoenix in Los Angeles with a bachelor’s in business management and received his master of business administration from Pepperdine University in Malibu. In 2002, Gus was honored as Lockheed Martin’s Leadership Association Manager of the year.

He will describe how you can implement Lean deployment on a program that supports a mature product no longer in production. Gus will discuss how new levels of performance excellence were achieved through management engagement and an innovative Lockheed Martin team. The new vision helped the Nighthawk Team deliver results recognized by the Shingo Prize in 2003.
