Keynote Speaker

Larry Martin
Vice President, Martin Door Manufacturing

“Oh the Things I know ------- now: We’re Good enough, We’re Smart enough, and Doggone it, Customers like us”

Mr. Larry Martin has almost five decades of experience overseeing the manufacturing processes at Martin Door Manufacturing, a family-owned company in Salt Lake City, Utah. While managing this plant, Larry studied engineering at the University of Utah, and subsequently studied modern manufacturing technologies at Utah State University, Weber State University, and Salt Lake Community College.

Larry served eight years on the Board of Directors of the Utah Manufacturers Association, five years as chairman of the Plant Managers Roundtable - Utah Employment Council, and six years on the Board of Directors of the Utah Contractors Association. He is a founding member of the Product Safety Circle, a division of the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC). He also served five years as chairman of the Beautification Committee of the South Salt Lake City Chamber of Commerce and has been active in local politics. Larry currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Manufacturing Extension Partnership of Utah (MEP) and is a founding member of the Lean Manufacturing Council of the Utah Best Practice Institute. He is an APICS CPIM.

Under Larry’s direction, Martin Doors has implemented production systems that maximize throughput and value stream flows in a build-to-order environment. He will discuss how these processes evolved and how you can use them to improve your manufacturing cycle time. His presentation will highlight the implementation of SMED on a 500-ton press, using a poke-yoke system that will not allow the press to operate if the setup is done wrong.
