Lee Caruso, an attorney since 1979, is a member of Vancott, Bagley, Cornwall, & McCarthy’s labor and employment group and litigation section. Ms. Caruso has extensive experience assisting clients with labor, employment, and litigation matters. As the former section chief of the Employment Litigation Division of the Utah Attorney General’s office, she defended all state agencies, universities, colleges, and school districts in state and federal court before the UALD, EEOC, and CSRB. She was selected by peers as one of Utah’s elite employment and labor attorneys in 2006 and 2007.
Ms. Caruso earned her B.A. degree with distinction and honors in 1975 from the University of Michigan and her J.D., cum laude, in 1979 from Michigan State University Law School. She was a law clerk for the Macomb County Circuit Court, a legal intern with U.S. Attorney’s office, and a judicial intern for Honorable Damon Keith, U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit.
Ms. Caruso began her career working in the labor intensive Detroit area representing employers in state and federal court in all employment-related matters including sex, age, race, disability and religious discrimination, breach of employment contract, non-competition agreements, employee benefits, and independent contractor status. Detroit is the international home of the UAW and the Teamsters, and Ms. Caruso acquired extensive experience representing employers in union disputes, collective bargaining, union decertification, unfair labor practices, and unlawful picketing. She worked in private practice in Park City, Utah, where she assisted clients with employment, labor, and real estate counsel and litigation matters.
Ms. Caruso is a member of the Employment & Litigation Section and Character & Fitness Committee of the Utah State Bar, a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and past chair of events committee of the Park City Bar Association. Ms. Caruso is executive board director of the Park City Chamber, member of the Business Network International, the Park City Women’s Business Network, the Citizens Open Space Advisory Committee of Park City, the Salt Lake City University of Michigan Alumni Association, and the McPolin Elementary Community Council.
