Rex Morgan, Director of Engineering, O. C. Tanner
Developing the Right Sized Equipment in Your Lean Journey

The O.C. Tanner Company is continually striving to become Lean and uses the Shingo Prize criteria as a benchmark for progress in this journey.

Often it is difficult to become Lean if you do not have the correct equipment that supports a manufacturing cell.  Rex will discuss, in the world of one-piece-flow and waste elimination, when you use autonomation vs. automation.  Three universal principals that must be in place to be successful with equipment development will be discussed along with some frequently faced challenges and seven suggested solutions.  Discussions will follow on how to accelerate the development of right-sized equipment and management’s leadership role in team make-up.  A case study will be presented on moving toward right-sized, flexible equipment to aid in the replacement and removal of process monuments that are not flexible or require the product to exit the cell.
