Colonel Douglas Evans

Commander, Red River Army Depot

Colonel Douglas J. Evans was born in San Pablo, California.  He was commissioned a second lieutenant and branched to the Ordnance Corps in June 1982.  He holds a Bachelor of Science in business management from Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah and a Master of business administration from Babson College in Boston, Massachusetts. He assumed command of Red River Army Depot on July 20, 2005.

His military education includes Ordnance Basic and Advance Course, Command and General Staff College (CGSC) and the Army Inspector General Course.  Colonel Evans has held a variety of command and staff assignments. He first served in the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii from 1983-1986.  He served as a platoon leader and shop officer in the Heavy Maintenance Company of the Main Support Battalion and in the Division Material Management Center (DMMC).  Following attendance at Officer Advance Course, he was assigned to the 9th Infantry Division, FT Lewis, Washington from 1987-1990 where he served as the support operations officer (SPO) of a Forward Support Battalion.  He took command of Maintenance Company then served as the material officer in the DMMC.  He attended graduate school from 1990-1992 with a follow on assignment to the Combined Arms Support Command at FT Lee, Virginia from 1992-1995.  COL Evans was in the CGSC graduating class of 1996. 

Following graduation, he served with the 7th Corps Support Group (CSG) in Bamberg, Germany, where he deployed in support of Operation Joint Endeavor to Taszar, Hungary as the S3.  Upon returning to Bamberg he received a second assignment with the 7th CSG deploying to Slavonski Brod, Croatia in support of Operation Joint Guard/Forge as the SPO.  Returning once again to Bamberg, he served as the 7th CSG Deputy Commander until his departure for FT Hood, TX in 1999.  His initial assignment at FT Hood was as the Deputy G4, III Corps until he assumed command of the Special Troops Battalion in March 2000, where he served until May 2002.  Following Battalion Command he became the 13th Corps Support Command Inspector General. While serving in this position he deployed to Iraq in Jan 2004, returning in Dec 2004. 

COL Evans’ awards and decorations include: The Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (two oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, NATO Medal, and the Parachutist Badge.
