Women in the Global Marketplace
In 1982 at the age of 31, Cheryl Womack was earning just $17,000 a year. She took an option that changed both her life and her lifestyle and started her first company in the basement of her home, focusing her attention on succeeding in two male-dominated industries—trucking and insurance.
During her 20-year career, Cheryl became known for innovative product development, an inventive corporate culture, and powerful industry leadership. She received numerous awards and accolades in recognition of her accomplishments. When she sold it in 2002, her Kansas City-based operation was valued at $100 million, with more than 90 employees and insuring more than 12,000 independent truckers throughout the United States.
Cheryl is now one of America’s most successful entrepreneurs, innovators, and business leaders, and is a highly respected role model. As the chairperson of a non-profit organization, Leading Women Entrepreneurs of the WorldTM (LWEW), Cheryl is working to raise the visibility of powerful entrepreneurial women to provide a valuable legacy for future generations of women.
The LWEW Honorees, totaling just over 300 female entrepreneurs, represent over 56 countries, collectively generate more than US $255 billion for the global economy, and employ more than 540,000 people around the world. The non-profit entity recognizes outstanding women business owners worldwide in addition to providing annual business grants.
Cheryl has a history of generous support to many local organizations and enjoys personally mentoring young entrepreneurs. She is a member of The Committee of 200, Entrepreneurs Exchange, The University of Kansas School of Business Advisory Board, Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government Women’s Leadership Board, and serves on a number of civic boards. She is happily married and the proud mother of two sons.
