Who’s In Charge? The Accouting Profession Following the Sarbannes - Oxley Act
Auston Johnson has been the State Auditor since July 1995. He was re-elected to a four-year term starting January 1, 2001, and has been with the State Auditor’s Office since 1976.
He is a member of the Utah Association of Certified Public Accountants and, in 2002, was named Outstanding CPA in Business and Management. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants where he currently serves on the Auditing Standards Board.
Prior to serving on the ASB, Mr. Johnson was a member of the task force that wrote the Government Accounting and Auditing Guide. He has also served in an advisory role to the Comptroller General of the United States in establishing Government Audit Standards.
Mr. Johnson is active in the National State Auditor’s Association, and is President-elect of the organization. Since 1994, he has been a member of the School of Accountancy Advisory Board at Utah State University. He is co-chair of the Mountain and Plains Intergovernmental Audit Forum. Mr. Johnson is a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1973. He graduated Cum Laude with a degree in Accounting from Utah State University.
