Keynote Speakers

David Liss
Former Columnist, Business Week & CEO, Integritas Communications

David Liss is the CEO of Integritas Communications, where he produces business focused seminars and educational events, video and feature articles to teach senior executives and students leadership, diversity training and entrepreneurial skills. David created and wrote the Ask the CEOSM column and related video interviews for Business Week, to teach readers how CEOs lead and make effective decisions. Seminars are created in partnership with national non-profit, educational, business and media corporations based on the Ask the CEOSM concept.

Ann Norman
Senior Associate, SNG

Ann Norman is a Senior Associate at SNG, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She most recently worked for the United Nations Development Programme, leading the development and implementation of the national communications strategy in post-conflict Sierra Leone, Africa. Her diverse background includes executive positions at New York-based Coltrin & Associates, Norman Communications in Los Angeles and Target Corporation in San Francisco. She has also lead communications teams for Intermountain Health Care, OC Tanner and ONEWORLD Software Solutions in Amman, Jordan.

Jennifer Karpf
Founder/Director, National Sports Marketing Network (NSMN)

In 1998, Jennifer founded the National Sports Marketing Network (NSMN) - the first-ever, exclusive trade organization in the sports business industry’s 50-year history. With local chapters across the United States, NSMN’s database includes more than 10,000 sports business executives and media. NSMN offers education, job matching and networking opportunities for top decision makers in the business of sports. Jennifer also served as an Adjunct Professor for New York University’s Sports Management degree program. Through her standing in the industry, she has been nominated for Sports Business Journal’s “40 under 40” award.

Jennifer will discuss how to break into sports marketing/networking.

Cathy Fernandes
Associate Publisher, Director of Sales, Marketing Magazine

Cathy Fernandes is currently Associate Publisher, Director of Sales at Marketing Magazine. In this position, she oversees all sales, marketing & promotions, and custom publishing & contract business. Cathy has a strong entrepreneurial background and in addition to her 12 years in publishing and media, she has worked in the Occupational Health & Safety sector, and prior to, the International Talent & Modeling industry. Cathy and her husband have two young sons and live in West Toronto.

Cathy will be discussing leadership responsibilty.

Shirley Turner
Director of North America Channel Marketing, Intel Corporation

Shirley oversees all channel marketing and program activities for distributors, system builders, integrators and value-add resellers for Intel’s platform products. Since joining Intel in 1984, she has held numerous positions within the company, including finance, manufacturing operations, and product marketing. For the past three years, she has been recognized as one of the “Top 100 Channel Executives” as determined by VARBusiness magazine. Shirley holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Linfield College.

Shirley will be discussing brand marketing.

Mike Bowcut
Director of Direct Marketing & Analysis, REI

Mike Bowcut is the director of Direct Marketing and Analysis at REI, a national cooperative providing high-quality outdoor gear and clothing. REI is recognized as the nation’s premier specialty retailer of outdoor gear and apparel. Mike is responsible for circulation planning and execution for REI’s direct mail program and email marketing program. He is also responsible for statistical modeling, database marketing, and customer and web analytics.

Trey Fitz-Gerald
Senior Director of Marketing & Communications, Real Salt Lake

Trey is entering his third season as Senior Director of Marketing & Communications for Real Salt Lake, overseeing the team’s public relations outreach, broadcasting, marketing and advertising programs. Fitz-Gerald, named the 2006 MLS Marketing Executive of the Year, has served the League since its inception, first with the Colorado Rapids in 1996 and with the MLS office in New York from 1997-2004. Fitz-Gerald began his career in the Denver Nuggets’ public relations department while pursuing a B.A. in English at Regis University in Denver.

Krista Parry
Director of Marketing & Communications, Park City Mountain Resort

Krista Parry is the Director of Marketing and Communications for Park City Mountain Resort (PCMR). Before joining PCMR she represented a broad spectrum of clients during her tenure at Coltrin & Associates, a New York-based public relations firm. There, Krista worked on the Salt Lake Organizing Committee account where she traveled nationwide as spokeswoman for the 2002 Olympic Torch Relay. Her time with the Olympics and PCMR has provided an opportunity to work with media outlets in virtually every market within the U.S.

Jay Barney
Regional Sales Coordinator for Northern Utah, Aflac

Jay Barney started his career with Aflac in Salt Lake City in November of 1993, soon after graduating from the University of Utah with a BA in Marketing. He is now a Regional Sales Coordinator for northern Utah where he oversees the marketing efforts of more than 50 agents and the servicing of over 360 accounts. He currently lives in North Ogden with his wife Sharon and three children.

Michael Schetzel
Senior Vice President & COO, Utah Grizzlies

Michael Schetzel is the Senior Vice President and COO of the Utah Grizzlies. Schetzel joined the Grizzlies from the National Hot Rod Association where he served as the Director of National Group Ticket Sales. Prior to the NHRA, he served with the Boston Red Sox as Director of Sales and later as the team’s Director of Ticket Services and Information. From 1997-1999, he was the Director of Sales and Marketing for Madison Square Garden Hartford. Also, during the 1996 Summer Olympics, he worked for the Atlanta Committee.

Mike Snarr
Vice President of Sponsorship and Sales, Utah Jazz

Mike Snarr joined the Utah Jazz in 1986 as an account executive, and has also served as local sales manager, and most recently, general sales manager before being appointed to his current position as vice president of sponsorship sales in 2002. He previously worked for Salt Lake-based advertising agency, Fotheringham and Associates, as an account executive. He left the agency business as vice president of marketing and media services to join Triad America in 1983 as vice president of marketing services.

Mike will be discussing building a winning sales team.

Troy Oldham
Professor, Utah State University &
Founder, Headspin Partners

For the past three years, Troy has served as a lecturer and faculty member of the Department of Communications at USU. Troy also owns and operates a consulting partnership called HeadSpin Partners which provides business, sales and marketing services to technology companies. He previously spent 11 years working for the Microsoft Corporation in sales, marketing, and management positions.
