Brent Olson is responsible for the product liability and promotion (food and drug) regulatory issues for Merck’s hair growth prescription medication, Propecia, and Merck’s antibiotic, antifungal, and AIDS products. He is also responsible for providing legal services relating to the clinical development of products, including patient consent, patient privacy, and contracting. He has been with Merck for 20 years. He began his career as a patent attorney and has worked as an attorney in licensing, manufacturing and research.
Mr. Olson received his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Brigham Young University, his doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Denver, and his master of business administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

Brent will discuss the regulatory hurdles in promoting Propecia®, a hair growth prescription drug. He will discuss the FDA prescription drug regulations as they apply to consumer advertising - TV ads in particular, and touch on the marketing strategies and obstacles in promoting a non-reimbursable “cosmetic” drug.
